Explore London’s Historic Pubs: A Journey Through Time

The London Pub Walking Tour is an immersive experience designed for pub enthusiasts and history buffs alike, offering a unique blend of history and classic British pub culture. This guided tour takes you on a journey to some hidden gems in the heart of London, visiting the city’s most iconic historic and atmospheric pubs.

Beginning in Blackfriars, right by the station is an unusual pub boasting ornate interiors and a rich history dating back to 1875. Its a famous Victorian pub with a very distinctive look, inside and out. A marble bar, lots of glass, amazing aesthetics combined with lots of history with the area make this a great start to the evening. Sir John Betjeman saved it from demolition in the 1960s.

Next up is a great old 17th century pub in the old leatherworking district. The pub was used as an office by Sir Christopher Wren. The masons of St Pauls ate and drank here. now its your turn.

After this we visit another Wren pub from the 17th century and this one has been popular with writers and journalists for centuries. Full of dark wood rooms and fireplaces.

Uncover Legendary Pubs and Fascinating Tales

No tour would be complete without an actual proper Irish pub in central London. This pub was where many Irish soldiers drank and continued to drink after World War 1 as many of them worked in the printing industry in Fleet Street. It’s allegedly one of the first pubs outside of Ireland to serve Guinness.

The final pub on this tour is nothing short of astonishing. Frequented by Dickens, Johnson, Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie and other notables. It was established around 1667 as there was a different pub on the site from the 1500s. Rich with atmosphere its full of dark wood panelling, nooks and crannies, lots of stairs and low ceilings to bang heads on. It also has a stuffed naughty parrot called Polly. It’s highly likely upstairs was a brothel at some point.

Throughout the tour your knowledgeable guide will share fascinating insights into London’s history and the stories behind each of these pubs. The London Pub Tour not only offers a delightful exploration of the city’s rich cultural heritage but also provides an engaging way to experience the charm and character of London’s historic pubs.
